The MSD Scope and Sequence Tools were developed for each grade-level by teams of Instructional Practices Coaches and classroom teachers. These tools are designed to:
-assist teachers with integrating Common Core Standards (CCS) with MSD core adopted programs.
-provide writing prompts within each ELA theme to enhance the theme concept and align to the writing types (purposes) in the CCS.
-differentiate the different types of vocabulary (Tier 1, 2 and 3 words) in each reading selection and to explicitly instruct on academic, high utility tier 2 words pulled from the reading text, CCS, and writing prompts.
-replace some HM anthology selections with other reading sources that will enhance the theme concept and address CCCS.
-provide math problem solving and math journal tasks that will deepen mathematical thinking and integrate the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice
-provide focus and coherence in both ELA and math instruction in all grade levels during MSD's transition to the Common Core Standards.
