Welcome to Esther L. Walter's web site. Walter School was built in 1959. The school was named for Ms. Walter, a teacher in the Magnolia School District for more than 25 years. The school sits on an 8.97 acre parcel, and was the ninth and final school built in the Magnolia School District. We currently have 650 students in kindergarten through sixth grades. Many of our students speak languages other than English as their primary language. We provide daily English Language Development Instruction to support students that are acquiring English. A highly qualified staff of bilingual instructional assistants support students each day in their primary language as the students also master the core subjects in English. Our teaching staff and office staff also represent different languages and cultures. Nine of our teachers are bilingual and speak Vietnamese or Spanish as well as English. Our office staff is bilingual in Spanish and English. Our custodians are bilingual as well as our parent and preschool coordinator. It is our intent to have school employees that can communicate with our families.
Walter School students have a rigorous academic curriculum. Our school is a Reading First School and our school is committed to an excellent reading and language arts curriculum. Our staff expects the students to utilize a variety of methods to demonstrate learning, to take risks, and to use productive skills. We are committed to:
- Educating the whole child to reach their greatest potential
- Valuing a range of learning styles
- Utilizing a variety of learning tools and strategies
- Extending the learning environment beyond the walls of the classroom
- Encouraging the students to become confident, lifelong learners
- Creating students of Character, embracing the traits of the six pillars of Character
- Developing technological expertise
I invite you to visit Walter School and join in our many parent activities such as: PTA, Coffee with the Principal, Family Literacy Nights, Family Math Nights, parent education classes, English classes for parents, School Site Council and other activities.

The dads and daughters were treated to a delicious Cortinas dinner, served by the Walter teachers and staff. The evening capped off with ice-cream sundaes and a full dance floor with dads and daughters doing the electric slide, cupid shuffle, and salsa dancing! It was a memorable night for all who participated.

All of the students wore their special AR t-shirt and were recognized at the Friday morning bullhorn assembly. A few weeks prior, the school celebrated Vy Ho, the first Walter student to reach 1000 AR points. Walter is proud of all of its 1st-6th grade students who have worked hard to earn their 100 points, and we look forward to seeing how many more students will reach this goal before the year is over!
On Friday, March 1st Walter School held a special night just for dads.
More than 50 dads gathered to participate in activities and listen to speakers focused on the vital role of dads. Frank Acosta, Orange County District Attorney, Joe Casas, an Anaheim High School counselor, and Omar Cova, from 24/7 dad, all spoke to the group about ways to support their children. The dads had a great night spending time together and learning more about how they can play a part in their child's education.

Students were taught the three key words-Action, Bravery, and Compassion and tools they can use on a daily basis to reduce bullying. It was a great day filled with a positive message, laughter, and great entertainment!
